MINE - KATY EVANS

Title - MINE
Author - Katy Evans
Genre - Erotic Romance

He's mine, and I'm his. Our love is all-consuming, powerful,
imperfect, and real...

In the international bestseller REAL, the unstoppable bad boy of the Underground fighting circuit finally met his match. Hired to keep him in prime condition, Brooke Dumas unleashed a primal desire in Remington "Riptide" Tate as vital as the air he breathes... and now he can't live without her.

Brooke never imagined she would end up with the man who is every woman's dream, but not all dreams end happily ever after, and just when they need each other the most, she is torn away from his side. Now with distance and darkness between them, the only thing left is to fight for the love of the man she calls MINE.

Katy Evans is now one of my favorite adult romance authors. Reading this book got me back into the mood of reading and soon I will resume working on my trilogy.

This book is the second installation in the REAL series. I haven't reviewed the first one cause I read it a while ago, but I soon will get to it. Diving into the review...

What I loved about Katy Evans style of writing is that it is easy to read. You could continue reading this one without getting bored, or anxious about when you'll finish it cause it is taking forever.

Remington Tate is a total heart-throb. Hot, possessive, strong, focused, primal, beautifully damaged, irresistible... Remy was all of that. Raw, sexy, invincible in the ring. I'm being biased here, but Remington is the kind of man I would have loved to be with and that is one of the few reasons why I loved this book.

Now that I've pretty much mentioned everything I loved about this book, let me state the things I am not that much of a fan of.

The plot wasn't heavy, so essentially the book could have been wrapped up in fewer pages. I did find it a little too long. Although she is a delightful young woman, Brooke's character didn't grip me. The supporting characters really seemed like Remington Tate's side kicks. They didn't seem to have a life of their own. And, somehow, the scenes and flow didn't feel real. In my opinion, the reader needs to be sucked into the story enough to forget the world around him/her. That didn't seem to happen.

I am going to go ahead and read the rest of the books in the series cause I am curious to see the direction in which Katy Evans nudges her characters.

His Alone (For Her #2) - Alexa Riley

Title - His Alone (For Her #1)
Author - Alexa Riley
Genre - Adult
Pages - 352
Ryan Justice may be her boss, but nothing will stop him from making her his. USA TODAY and #1 ebook bestselling author Alexa Riley entices with a brand-new, full-length novel.

She thinks I'm perfect. A good boss, a good man. She thinks that I play by the rules.

She has no idea who I truly am. Why I'm really here.

Paige Turner is trying to outrun her past, but there it is, tossed back in her face anytime she manages to get two steps ahead.

She has no idea what a man like me will do to get what he wants.

Her need for Ryan got in the way of revenge, took her off course. Redirected her focus. Before she knew it, he'd made his way into her life. Into her heart.

I'm dirtier than she knows. She thinks I'm good to the core, but she doesn't know the things I've done. The things I would do for her.

True love doesn't let secrets as big as these stay buried. And when the truth about Paige's father is finally exposed, Ryan will do anything to fix everything. Paige has always been his and his alone.
***********************************************************************************************************************

This second novel in the duology tells us the story of Paige (Mallory's best friend and roommate) and Ryan Justice a.k.a. Captain America's story.

I mainly enjoyed this story because of the unabashed and hot as hell sex. The story wasn't gripping, but neither was the first in the duology, so I'm not complaining. Ryan's obsession with Paige was pretty much like Oz's obsession with Mallory. Love at first sight, but the girl didn't even know the boy existed sort of a thing.

What I didn't quite like was the portrayal of murder being the answer to one's problem and that getting away with murder is easy. The idea that you needn't think twice before shooting someone to death is frankly very disturbing.

I'm giving this book 4 stars mainly because I literally cringed while reading the explicit parts, God my cheeks get red just remembering some of the scenes.

This book is not recommended for readers under the age of 18.

Everything For Her (For Her #1) - Alexa Riley

Title - Everything For Her (For Her #1)
Author - Alexa Riley
Genre - Adult
Pages - 384
I'll never forget the way she looked, so confident and sure of herself. I watched her from a distance. She wasn't ready for me yet. I didn't approach her and I didn't disturb her, but I never once took my eyes off her.
Mallory Sullivan is ready to start her new life. After graduating at the top of her class, she's landed one of the most coveted internships in the United States. Hard work and determination have gotten her to this moment of living the life she only dreamed of while growing up in foster care.
From the start, I knew that she would be my greatest achievement, so the day I let her go, I set down a path for her. A path to me.
She never expected Oz to be the greatest culmination of those dreams. But sometimes fate determines who you fall in love with. Who makes you lose control. Who owns your soul.
And then you realize it wasn't fate at all…
I've wanted to care for and protect her since the first moment I saw her. I've constructed everything in our lives so that at the perfect moment, I could have her, could give her the life she deserves.

The time has come.

Alexa Riley is a well known name in the adult romance genre but had only written short stories until Everything For Her. This book happens to be the duo's(Alexa Riley is a two woman team who write dirty books together) first full length novel. I came across this story on goodreads and jumped right into it.

This book was good, very good, but the majority of it was very unrealistic. That's the freedom writing gives you, you can write or frame things in the most unrealistic manner cause that's the whole point of writing fiction - to let your imagination go as wild and as creepy as it can. I enjoyed the book, but not to a point of bragging about it for days to come. I read it, I liked it, I moved on.

I will not hesitate stating that the main characters were exaggerated. Oz was an over obsessed psycho and Mallory was an imbecile with no brain cells. Oz's obsession over Mallory was beyond my comprehension, and how he fell in love with her the way he did was well beyond me. May I add, she took a very long time to realize things and in the end she kind of reveled in Oz's unhealthy obsession, which sort of makes her a psycho too.

What I liked, or rather loved about this book was the way it was written. The flow of language, the elucidation of emotions, the order of events and the hot and dirty sex!

The only character that seemed real to me was that of Paige's, Mallory's roommate and best friend. After reading this book, I dived right into the next in the series to learn Paige and Captain America's story.

This book is not recommended for readers under the age of 18.

The Siren - Kiera Cass

Title - The Siren
Author - Kiera Cass
Genre - Young Adult
Pages - 336

"You must never do anything that might expose our secret. This means that, in general, you cannot form close bonds with humans. You can speak to us, and you can always commune with the Ocean, but you are deadly to humans. You are, essentially, a weapon. A very beautiful weapon. I won't lie to you, it can be a lonely existence, but once you are done, you get to live. All you have to give, for now, is obedience and time..."
The same speech has been given hundreds of times to hundreds of beautiful girls who enter the sisterhood of sirens. Kahlen has lived by these rules for years now, patiently waiting for the life she can call her own. But when Akinli, a human, enters her world, she can't bring herself to live by the rules anymore. Suddenly the life she's been waiting for doesn't seem nearly as important as the one she's living now.
*********************************************************************************

If you are a teen and you enjoy mythical creatures, this one's for you. This book is easy-breezy to get through and the story is adorable. Though targeted to a younger audience, I enjoyed it and it took me about two days to read it.

I didn't know what Sirens were until I read the Watersong Series by author Amanda Hocking. Her writing mesmerized me and I fell in love with sirens. Their vicious and irresistible beautify appealed to me, intriguing me to a point to learn more about sirens and their lives.

This book gives you an elaborate peek into a young girl - Kahlen's life as a siren and the emotions and limitations she is subject to. What particularly fascinated me was the relationship Kahlen and the ocean shared, the ocean being her mother since she turned Kahlen into a Siren. I like how different authors have different ideas of sirens, it was interesting to read Kiera Cass's version. The siren is a book you will instantly connect with, making you smile and cry as you go along.

I've heard that Kiera Cass's Selection Series is also pretty good, I will get into that in the future.

Say You'll Stay - Corinne Michaels

Title - Say You'll Stay
Author - Corinne Michaels
Genre - Romance
Pages - 310

One word.

Stay.
It was all he had to do. Instead, he got on that bus and took my heart with him.

That was seventeen years ago.

I moved on. Marriage. Kids. White picket fence. Everything I ever wanted, but my husband betrayed me and I was left once again.

Alone, penniless, and with two boys, I had no choice but to return to Tennessee. He wasn’t supposed to be there. I should’ve been safe. However, fate has a way of stepping in.

This time around, the tables are turned. It’s my decision. Second chances do exist, but I don’t know if we can repair what’s already been broken . . .

***********************************************************************************************************************

I've been exploring new authors lately, based purely on reviews and the preface of the book. This book is the first in the Return To Me series and each book in this series is a standalone.

The story had a devastating start, in the beginning it immediately sucked me in and I knew right away that I'd finish the book in one or two sittings, but that was it. Later, the story didn't have many twists and turns and I found it hard to get through all of it. Nothing unexpected happened, nothing exciting happened. The one thing I fell in love with was Zach, such a heart-warming and beautiful man he is.

The book is written well, I must give the author that. And the hope that second-chances brings is depicted with utmost clarity. I will read the next book sometime in the near future with the hope that it is better than this one.

I idolize Nicki Minaj for the right reasons

I request you to read through the entire post since I have conflicting opinions about the rise of the greatest female rapper ever - Nicki Minaj

A lot of Nicki Minaj fans have been posting a lot of her videos and pictures on Instagram lately and it has forced me to wonder... is this what kids look up to? is this what people want to be?... objectifying their own bodies and making a fool of themselves publicly, and making a fool of every WoC out there?

Now I've come across innumerable arguments stating she exudes power - something women are often deprived of, she's the best female rapper in the history of rap and that she is comfortable with her body and respects herself which is an unparalleled and applaud-worthy aspect. I'd like to counter each of these 3 arguments made by every conscious Nicki Minaj fan out there.

1. Nicki OWNS her body

Every woman should because every woman is beautiful and to own your body is undoubtedly the right thing to do. But how does hypersexualized and disrespectful conduct be the right way to send out a message to women? When you see the pictures below, do the words respect, grace or dignity strike you? If they do, please book an appointment with the nearest psychotherapist.

2. Nicki is the best female rapper ever
This is simple, I'm just going to copy/paste the lyrics of two of her songs and highlight a few lines that prove her rapping is complete sh*t 😄

Come On A Cone

Uhh! Unghh!
Bitches ain't serious, man these bitches delirious
All these bitches inferiors, I just pimp my interiors
I just pick up and go, might pick up a hoe
Might give conversation, if you kick up the dough
Never mind my money; never mind my stacks
Every bitch wanna be me, you can find 'em in Saks
"Pink Friday" two milli, "Super Bass" triple plat
When you see me on Ellen, just admit that I'm winning
Do a show for Versace, they request me by name
And if they don't get Nicki, it just won't be the same
When I'm sitting with Anna, I'm really sitting with Anna
Ain't a metaphor punchline, I'm really sitting with Anna!!

Front row at Oscar de la Renta posture
Ain't a bitch that could do it, not even my impostor
Put these bitches on lockout, where the fuck is your roster?
I pull up in that new new, marinara and pasta

[Chorus:]
Shake my head yo I'm mad, ain't a bitch in my zone
In the middle of nowhere, I just feel so alone
Got the certification, cause it come with the stone
But this ice is so cold, It should come on a cone
It should come on a cone, It should come on a cone
And my ice is so cold, It should come on a cone
It should come on a cone, It should come on a cone
Cause my ice is so cold, It should come on a cone

7-Up went and gave, my commercial to Cee-Lo
But don't tell them I said it, let's keep it on the d-low
If you need you a look, just put me on your song
But you know it'll cost, about six figures long
But you bitches ain't got it, where the fuck is your budgets?
Flying spurs for hers; me I'm fucking above it
And I just got the ghost, and I'm calling it (Casper)
But this shit is so cold, it belong in Alaska
Why the fuck am I styling? I competes with myself
When you win against Nicki, you depleted your wealth
And I'm not masturbating, but I'm feeling myself
Paparazzi is waiting, cause them pictures'll sell
Now don't you feel a-stupid, yeah that's egg on your face
If you wasn't so ugly, I'd put my dick in yo' face!
[Singing] Dick in your face; put my dick in your face, yeah!

[Chorus]

[Outro]
Ooohh-ooh, dick in your face [3x]
Put my dick in your face

Put my dick in your face, yeah yeah
Yeah yeah
Yeah yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah, yeah
Yeah-yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah, yeah
Yeah (YUH!)

Tapout (featuring Nicki Minaj)

[Nicki Minaj:]
Million dollar pussy, million dollar pussy
Six inch pumps, play with his balls, dunks
Bald head, yup, don't want no Forest Gumps
Don't let me tell ya twice, already told ya once
Eat that pussy
Who got the baddest pussy on the planet

D boys love me they don't understand it
Oooooh deep throat (Rich Gang)
Million dollar pussy might pounce on that ass
Throw them hundreds 'til I lose counts on that ass
Max out all of them accounts on that ass
Million dollar cheques don't bounce on that ass
Pull up in that you can't afford this
Only rap bitch on the Forbes list
Pussy jewelry make 'em say burr man, rubs hands like Birdman

None of her songs stir any sort of emotion or have any deep meaning. The only thing she blabbers about is sex. Pussy, dick, fat ass, fuck, balls, and various activities/gestures that go along with one or more than one of these nouns are all she really cares/raps about.

Just imagine your 6 year old niece singing "Million dollar pussy" when visiting her old grandparents. Such a disaster!
3. Nicki Minaj exudes power

I am fully convinced about this one. Nicki Minaj, was born on December 8, 1982, to two part-time gospel singers. What an irony, isn't it? Her father, however, was a short tempered alcoholic and a drug addict to the point of burning down their house in 1987. Imagine the pain, suffering and uncertainty Nicki Minaj was exposed to.

Her mother brought the family to Queens, New York when Minaj was only 5. As a kid, Minaj dreamed of pursuing a career in acting, but I guess things turned out so much better for her. She worked as a waitress at various restaurants and was fired about 15 times for discourtesy to customers.

Her way to fame has in no way been easy. She has worked hard (working hard being the focus, the how hardly matters). As of today, at the age of 34 years, her net worth is estimated to a mind-boggling $70 million.

So do you still think your or my criticism or opinion affects her?

It only helps her get richer and famed.

The material she creates, if not applauded or enjoyed (her hypersexualized and disrespectful conduct), is definitely consumed profusely by a very large number of people. Her stuff sells and she continues to create more of it unabashedly. Cause she has understood what people desire and devour and she exploits this revelation left, right and center. What's wrong with that?...she doesn't force her butt or dick on your face, does she?

And for this reason, I look up to her, well certain values she imbibes. You might think of her as vulgar, obnoxious, unbearable, disgusting, stupid... but I think along with these attributes she is also a genius and a daredevil and those two qualities alone overpower everything else.
There is so much to learn from you Nicki Minaj.
