Gorgeous. Fearless. Dangerous. They're the kind of girls you envy; the kind of girls you want to hate. Strangers in town for the summer, Penn, Lexi and Thea have caught everyone's attention—but it’s Gemma who’s attracted theirs. She’s the one they’ve chosen to be part of their group.

Gemma seems to have it all—she’s carefree, pretty, and falling in love with Alex, the boy next door. He’s always been just a friend, but this summer they’ve taken their relationship to the next level, and now there’s no going back. Then one night, Gemma’s ordinary life changes forever. She’s taking a late night swim under the stars when she finds Penn, Lexi and Thea partying on the cove. They invite her to join them, and the next morning she wakes up on the beach feeling groggy and sick, knowing something is different.

Suddenly Gemma is stronger, faster, and more beautiful than ever. But her new powers come with a terrifying price. And as she uncovers the truth, she’s is forced to choose between staying with those she loves—or entering a new world brimming with dark hungers and unimaginable secrets.

Let me start off by saying I am a big fan of Amanda Hocking. She inspires me in so many ways. I'll do a separate post that will elaborate why she's my favorite. I'll put the link here when the post is up.

This was the first paranormal book I've read and I liked it. I could flip right through the pages without a break and it didn't bore me, not once. Although this is a YA book, ages 12 - 18, almost anyone can read and enjoy it, anyone 8 and above. This book has little swearing and no obscenity, so parents can let their children read it without being worried.

I picked it up because I wanted to read something easy. This is a series of 4 thick books, but you don't have to be alarmed by the size (of the book). It took me 7 days to finish the series, all during my spare time, and I am not a fast reader.

A lot of YA readers have some very good things to say about this book and I think I know why. Amanda Hocking, through this book, gives you an insight into Greek Mythology which was quite fascinating. I thought the sirens in this book were interesting, I didn't have to think twice before starting the second book. Penn was my favorite Siren, cause she's the worst and you'll easily develop a hatred toward her. And Harper was my favorite character, cause she seems like such a wonderful older sister, always looking out for Gemma.
If you're in a reading slump, try this book. It'll relax you and get you back to where you want to be. I didn't know what sirens were before I read this book (I've started reading books only a couple of months back). After reading this book, I googled all I could about sirens and Greek Mythology and I must say I'm impressed at how Amanda Hocking has taken this piece of mythology and totally owned it, seamlessly weaving it into present times.

Watch the book trailer video, it's done really well.
