As a traditional psychotherapist, Dr. Brian Weiss was astonished and skeptical when one of his patients began recalling past-life traumas that seemed to hold the key to her recurring nightmares and anxiety attacks. His skepticism was eroded, however, when she began to channel messages from the “space between lives,” which contained remarkable revelations about Dr. Weiss’ family and his dead son. Using past-life therapy, he was able to cure the patient and embark on a new, more meaningful phase of his own career.

I've never read a book about past-lives and reincarnation before this one. A friend recommended this book and the topic interested me, so I dived right into it without second thought.
You should not read this book if you do not have an open mind about the idea of reincarnation, immortality and life after death. I had an open mind, that's why I could enjoy this book in a way that most others will not.
I read most of this in two nights, in bed before sleeping and some parts - the parts where the Masters spoke was pretty spooky. Each master spoke in a distinctive tone and manner. The lessons they taught were pretty universal, ones we already have heard.
***Spoiler Alert***
Dr. Weiss is a well accomplished psychiatrist who was appointed as Chief of Psychiatry in a university-affiliated hospital in Miami. This book is about his interaction with his patient Catherine while medicating her for the problems she's struggling with - panic attacks, fear of choking, nightmares, anxiety, phobias. Conventional methods fail to ease her problems, and hence after trying for eleven months he goes ahead and uses hypnosis to help her remember long forgotten incidents.
When he asks here to travel back in time to find out incidents from her childhood, she ends up in a past life. Over weeks, not only does she relive/revisit some of her many (86 to be specific) past lives, she also experiences her spirit form in-between lives. That's when a few Master Spirits speak to Dr. Weiss.
Dr. Brian Weiss claims this to be true incidents, the conversation put down verbatim since he tape recorded these hypnotic regression sessions with Catherine. I would enjoy hearing the actual conversations better, and I hope he shares it with people to believe, cause this stuff is very hard to believe.
I'll put down a few lines from the book so you'll know if you want to read the whole book.
This is told by a Master spirit with Catherine as the conduit.
“Patience and timing … everything
comes when it must come. A life cannot be rushed, cannot be worked on a
schedule as so many people want it to be. We must accept what comes to us at a
given time, and not ask for more. But life is endless, so we never die; we were
never really born. We just pass through different phases. There is no end.
Humans have many dimensions. But time is not as we see time, but rather in
lessons that are learned.”
This is from a lecture that happened in Dr. Weiss's dream.
"Balance and harmony are neglected today, yet they are the foundations of
wisdom. Everything is done to excess. People are overweight because they eat
excessively. Joggers neglect aspects of themselves and others because they run
excessively. People seem excessively mean. They drink too much, smoke too
much, carouse too much (or too little), talk too much without content, worry too
much. There is too much black-or-white thinking. All or none. This is not the
way of nature."
***Spoiler complete***
This topic interests me and I am open to reading more about it. What this book really wants to do is eradicate the fear of death from our minds so we can live a fuller life with faith, hope, love and charity. Humankind, you and me.. we are immortal in spirit.
At the end of this book I was like, I'd like to get hypnotized and know about my past-lives, for all I know, I could have been a pretty famous and sexy person in a past life... I could have been a terrorist, or Marilyn Monroe, or George Washington, or Jesus! I could be my grandma who died before I was born. Who knows?
INCREDIBLE!!!
