It all began way back in 2013. My best friend Colleen Hoover had come over to my place for a sleepover. I remember clearly, she was suffering from an author's block (when your brain fails to feed you ideas) and I had just found out I was being cheated by my boyfriend of 2 years.
It was raining that night, and my cousin watched porn in the next room. It was so loud, we had to apologize to our neighbors whose kids were frightened with the loud moans and gasps they heard. Anyway, Colleen kept telling me how things would turn out fine in my love life, and then my asshole of a boyfriend called to give some lame-ass excuse for banging my colleague who I thought was my best friend.
All I could hear was shit, cause no amount of explanation could mend my broken heart. But my friend knew what I needed, so she went ahead to "give it to me".
God!... no you guys! I meant pizza, I love pizza, especially when I'm depressed. The two of us hoped for the pizza to take more than 30 minutes to reach my doorstep (This particular Pizza is free if they take more than 30 minutes to be delivered after you've placed the order). So in 15 minutes the delivery guy was standing at my doorstep.
Obviously, like always, Colleen makes me pay for the pizza she ordered for me. So I took the money and opened the front door and Oh my God, the guy in front of me was like a dream. Colleen came running to me when she heard me gasp.
"He is so hot", she said out loud.
The guy smiled.
"What is your name?" I asked.
The guy smiled.
"Do you play the guitar?", Colleen asked.
The guy smiled, placed the pizza box in my hand and pulled out the guitar from behind him. Then he closed his eyes and began to play a song.
"Wow, you play so well! Please come in and play while we watch you and eat this pizza!", I requested.
The guy didn't respond. He continued to strum his guitar with his eyes closed.
My cousin came running from his room and tapped this boy's shoulder. He stopped playing and smiled at my cousin. Then my cousin began signing, and the boy signed back. Soon, the pizza was snatched from my hand.
Colleen stiffened.
"We ordered this!", I growled at my cousin.
"He got this for us, he likes to eat pizza while watching porn. And you better not drool watching him, he's got a girlfriend whom he absolutely loves and will never leave. She also has a lung disorder and might die any moment, best case scenario she lives till she's 30 - 35. But you better not keep your hopes high", my cousin said and walked into his room.
I looked at Colleen, her eyes widened. "Oh my God! He's a deaf guy who plays the guitar!"
The extremely hot guitar guy took a pen from a table behind him and grabbed my hand. The pen met my skin and moved across my palm as he wrote something. Colleen watched us intently as he wrote on my palm. Then he smiled and walked into my cousins room to watch porn and eat pizza.
My breathing got heavy. I slowly lifted my hand to see what he wrote. "Maybe Someday".
And just like that, Colleen Hoover's author's block was lifted away!!!
P.S. - The pizza guy was late, so we got free pizza :) and even after the success of this book, Colleen makes me pay for the pizza she buys me :P
My review after reading the book
I loved this book, I really did. The only problem was that it was a little dragged. The characters were awesome, I absolutely loved Ridge. The simplicity with which she wrote made it easier to finish the book faster while savoring each nuance.
Most of it was predictable, but you'll still enjoy it. I love Colleen Hoover and I am going to be reading all of her books because this story is one I will remember.
Also, when I learnt that Ridge was deaf since birth, I was a little confused about how he could read and write English so well. It troubled me, so I stopped reading the book and began researching about it on the internet. After a lot of reading I finally came across an article that answered my question.
I was satisfied after reading this answer.
There are three songs that I enjoyed, they happen at the end of this book, and I took the trouble to listen to those songs on you-tube while reading the part where the song is played in the book. I've put the link below, listen to it when you get to the part, it'll bring out the meaning so beautifully.
1. It's you
2. Hold on to you
3. Let it begin
